The Thief? Shiraz '22
The Thief? Shiraz '22
About the Wine:
The Thief? Shiraz offers a rich combination of blackberry, coal, toast, earth, and coffee, along with a touch of redcurrant-like brightness. The palate is greeted with black cherries, ripe peppercorns, and kirsch, supported by medium tannins and a hint of smoke. The use of oak adds a pleasant note of vanilla. This Barossa Shiraz strikes a perfect balance between a classic style and a modern twist.
About the Producer:
'The Thief' is a wine label by Tash Mooney that pays homage to her Great Great Grandfather, John Mooney, known as 'Walter.' Wrongly accused of cow theft in the late 1800s, he went to his grave with that stigma.
Acquired by winemaker veteran Natasha Mooney in 2016, the vineyard, planted exclusively with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, marks her venture into vineyard ownership. Passionate about biodynamics, Natasha is gradually transitioning the vineyard to organic and biodynamic practices, with the "Bullock Block" being the first area to fully embrace these principles. Natasha firmly believes that crafting exceptional wines is intrinsically tied to nurturing a sustainably healthy vineyard. The 10-hectare vineyard is thoughtfully sectioned into four distinct blocks, each tailored to its specific terroir and planted with grape varieties best suited to thrive in those conditions.
